Illness at School
***REVISED SCHOOL POLICIES REGARDING COVID-19 & INFECTIOUS DISEASES***
Due to the evolving COVID-19 status, the preschool may prepare and enact policy changes periodically. We reserve the right to make any revisions accordingly; as we are a private entity and will enact these changes in our continued efforts to keep everyone HEALTHY & SAFE. The preschool also maintains the right to close a particular classroom due to excessive illness and abuse of our illness policy.
If the child becomes ill and/or is found to be in a potentially contagious situation after arrival at the preschool, the parent/guardian will be notified accordingly and will be required to call for the child immediately.
In the event that the parent/guardian is unable to pick-up the child, the preschool will then refer to the emergency contact listing, and they will be asked to call for your child.

Any child found not to be infected or suspected to be infectious with any contagious disease or condition, including but not limited to:

...will be re-admitted to the preschool only pursuant to the State Department of Health Communicable Disease Reference Guide, and/or subject to the sole discretion of the preschool.

In addition to the above policy, the following has been enacted to clarify several items:

Anyone with influenza-like illness (fever at 99.9, cough, runny nose, sore throat, vomiting, etc., is required to stay at home. The child is to remain out of school for a minimum of 24 hours after the fever is gone; without the use of any fever-reducing medicine. (Also-if your child is sent home from school because of a fever, he/she will not be allowed to return the following day since it is evident that the child has not been fever-free for 24 hours without a fever reducer being administered.) We may require the results of a negative Covid-19 rapid test.

When any student has a communicable disease — influenza, stomach flu (diarrhea or vomiting), sinus infection, chickenpox, conjunctivitis (pink-eye), scabies, strep throat, impetigo, nasal discharge, fever, etc., or found to be in a potentially contagious situation, the preschool and its staff reserves the right to prohibit the student from attendance until the expiration of the prescribed or required period of isolation.

A physician’s (M.D.) note or a certificate will now be required and presented to the preschool before the child is allowed to be re-admitted to school. In addition to the note, the preschool still has the sole discretion and final decision as to whether the child should be back in school. If so, you will be contacted and expected to call for your child.

The preschool does sympathize with parents that are employed, and the consequences incurred when trying to find stand-by or substitute child care, however, we have to consider the health of the other children in attendance, as well as our staff.

General Information & Admissions Documents

The parent/guardian agrees to read and familiarize her/himself with all general information as provided by Small World Preschool. Further the parent/guardian will acknowledge ALL of the terms and conditions set forth. The parent/guardian also understands and agrees that if they, or the child, fail to comply with and uphold the standards of Small World, in addition to the abuse of any policy of the preschool, or breach of any term of the Parent/Guardian Agreement & Registration Form (provided by the school), the child may then be subject to dismissal from the preschool with and/or without any prior notice. The parent/guardian also understands that the preschool reserves the right to make any policy revision(s) and/or addition(s) at its discretion. Such changes shall be made in writing and shall be distributed to the parent/guardian accordingly. It shall be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to become fully aware of any such revisions, and agree to abide by such.

Dismissal, Suspension & Expulsion Policy

There may be circumstances when the preschool determines that a child will need to be removed/dismissed from attending school. This is sometimes a result of a child’s situation where the staff proceeds to re-direct, re-assess, give repeated verbal warnings and application of consequences due to their behavior. Often, the preschool may find that the child would benefit from a “freedom-based, learn through play environment and dismiss the child. The preschool documents these occurrences, parents are notified accordingly, and parent-teacher conferences scheduled. An expulsion action; time allotted to the parent to address the child’s behavior is determined by the school, along with the expected behavioral change required to maintain the child’s attendance at school. The parent will be given a separate document explaining the policy; the parent is required to acknowledge with their signature(s), Other actions that may warrant suspension/expulsion are:

-
Failure to adhere to school policies and procedures; especially payment and pick-up policy.
-
Repeated occurrences of disrespectful behavior and actions, along with uncontrollable tantrums and angry outbursts.
-
Intimidating behavior, physical and verbal abuse to staff and others.
-
Indifference/no response or actions taken to address our concerns.
-
Failure for the child to acclimate and adjust to our structured environment.
-
Indifference or no response/action to Preschool’s expressed concerns.

Grievance Policy: If a family feels the necessity file a grievance policy against a decision made by the preschool that pertains to the dismissal, suspension, or exclusion of a child, they should prepare a written document and present it to the preschool within 30 days of the notice of dismissal or suspension.
